Chalet Muri Talk with André Hoffmann

On October 20, 2025, the Chalet Muri once again provided the stage for an evening full of food for thought. The guest: André Hoffmann - Vice Chairman of Roche Holding, member of the Board of Trustees of the World Economic Forum and the Board of Directors of other companies and organizations committed to sustainable system change. As a committed environmentalist, Hoffmann was also International Vice President of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) from 2007 to 2017. In this role, he also championed the responsible use of resources - convictions that run consistently through his work.

In conversation with host Claudio Righetti, Hoffmann spoke about the future of business. Growth if you like, but not at any price. Innovation yes, but always with a long-term view. Hoffmann's new book "Die neue Natur des Wirtschaftens" (NZZ Libro Verlag), co-authored with Belgian business journalist Peter Vanham, sheds light on the transformation of the global economic world. The authors show why traditional models are reaching their limits in the face of climate change and social inequality - and what a rethink might look like.
"For me, it is crucial that the economy focuses on the needs of the individual, on strengthening social living spaces and on preserving nature," says Hoffmann. With him, marketing buzzwords such as "innovation", "sustainability" and "sense of responsibility" suddenly have a face - and a very likeable one at that. You can tell from both the speaker and the guests that they are serious, that ways are being sought and also found, and that - away from the loud moralizers - something is happening after all: quietly, constantly and effectively.
